The Role
The
Internal Audit Specialist, Finance and Compliance works closely with the
Manager, Internal Audit to assist in accomplishing all aspects of the Internal
Audit program. This position is part of a team that provides objective
assurance to Management and the Board of Directors on the effectiveness of all
controls to create value, stability and sustainability for the Credit Union.
- Perform various process, finance, compliance and operation audits, and assisting with required reporting and adherence to annual audit charter & work plans, audit documentation
- Assist in the execution of the Internal Audit Work Plan as approved by the Audit Committee
- Review all compliance and finance functions, and test staff knowledge, compliance and adherence to policy
- Communicate resource and staffing needs to Manager, Internal Audit to ensure a sustainable, effective and compliant Internal Audit Program
- Provide staff education, staff awareness training and internal audit skill development as appropriate
- Provide information, demonstrate internal control processes and assist in finalizing audit reports to external auditors and regulatory bodies as required as required
- Ensure that audit activity is compliant with professional Audit and reporting standards, performance targets, budgets, mandate and timelines
- Contribute to the development, review and distribution of audit reporting to all business units
- Recommend policies, procedures and programs from Internal Audit findings
- Follow-up on status of outstanding management action plans which includes verification of action plan completeness
- Establish audit link with ERM by facilitating detailed process and internal controls registry

What we are looking for
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Accounting/Finance or Auditing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Accounting designation required
- Minimum of two (2) plus years of related experience, preferably in a financial institution
- Experience working within guidelines of IFRS
- Well-developed writing skills to prepare material involving interpretation, analysis, assessment, and reports
- Ability to maintain awareness of changes to laws, regulations or guidance affecting the Credit Union
- Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Advanced Excel and MS Office
- Understanding of compliance requirements and knowledge of financial services
- Ability to build relationships within department and across YNCU
- Systematic, disciplined and analytical approach
- Must be bondable
