The Role

 As part of the IT Infrastructure and Operations team, the Network Specialist will be responsible for building, configuring and administering network resources, day-to-day support activities, proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, as well as project implementation. Daily responsibilities require this position to provide 2nd level support, troubleshoot existing solutions, and maintain updated network architectural diagrams, as well as other critical documentation.     

  • Proactively monitor and tune infrastructure and network for optimal performance using tools such as PRTG
  • Provide analysis to troubleshoot infrastructure and integration issues to formulate solutions for corrective measures
  • Work with third party vendors for all communications and networking issues
  • Provide tier 2 level technical support to diagnose and resolve client system issues via telephone, email, remote control, or onsite when required
  • Participate in analysis to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and outages and formulate quality resolutions and root cause analysis
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data using industry best-practices, and YNCU Policy regarding information security, and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain system availability, and in the event of an outage provide appropriate notification to the business of the likely time and extent of these outages
  • Document configurations, test plans, and installation instructions
  • Technical leadership skills with the ability to work independently taking the lead on project and execute against communicated timelines
  • Perform software, firmware, and hardware upgrades/patching to ensure integrity of network infrastructure components (physical and virtual)
  • Install, configure and support network technologies such as: Meraki, Windows, VMware and cloud-based technologies
  • Administer, configure, and support LAN and WAN technologies such as VPN, firewalls, switches and wireless access points (Meraki)
  • Create documentation and detailed network diagrams using Microsoft Word and Visio
  • Follow up and communicate with employees and vendors in a timely manner
  • Provide after hours support related to networking when required
  • Provide recommendations on new technologies and participate in an ongoing process of continuous improvement
  • Adhere to the change advisory process when making changes

What we are looking for

  •  Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science, or Technologies with a focus on computer networking
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience demonstrating proficiency with network infrastructure equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with DNS, DHCP, subnets and routing
  • Excellent skills with network monitoring tools
  • Solid experience with Remote Access and VPN services
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in all OSI layers
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and able to quickly identify issues and recommend solutions
  • Core understanding of IP telephony services
  • Willingness to constantly upgrade knowledge, skillset, and experience
  • Ability to travel to all YNCU locations as required
  • Must be able to perform heavy lifting on an occasional basis
  • Must be bondable
