The Role
As a trusted
financial advisor, you will help members with their everyday banking, credit,
and investment needs, including mutual funds.
Accountable for
building long-term profitable relationships within a set portfolio of members
by providing value-added advice and exceptional service. Under general supervision provides advocacy
to members related to a full range of lending and investment vehicles with
emphasis on consumer loans, mortgages, credit card products, lines of credit,
deposit and investment vehicles within clearly defined policies and
procedures. Be the primary resource for
opening new member accounts and for actively soliciting membership growth
opportunities by following up on incoming credit checks, staff referrals, sales
initiatives and member inquiries. Actively participate in all branch campaigns and promotions and
champions the organization’s member advocacy culture.
This position
is for an existing vacancy within our team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary resource for opening
new accounts. By asking open ended
questions establishing the member’s short- and long-term financial goals
and providing education and advice to ensure the member is making informed
decisions in order to achieve their goals.
- Provide
accurate and detailed instructions to the Loan and Investment
Administrative staff in order to ensure all administration for processing
of all new, and renewing loans, mortgages, and investments is completed
accurately and on time in order to meet the member’s identified
needs. Once work is complete, spot
check for accuracy and answer the questions where required.
- When
meeting with members, ask open-ended questions in order to understand the members’
full financial needs.
- When
making credit decisions, complete a thorough investigation of the facts,
and make sound lending decisions that balance the member’s needs with the
credit union’s risk. Follow
discretionary lending limits and lending policies. Make recommendations for loans outside
limits and review all declines with Branch Manager.
- Provide
individual financial counselling (debt consolidation) and information to
members on lending services and deposit products offered through the
credit union.
- Ensure
profitability by using sound judgement and policy when setting interest
rates.
- Support
all marketing campaigns.
- Make
referrals to Investment Advisor for mutual funds and other investment
vehicles.
- Actively
participate in departmental/ work unit and credit union meetings.
- Identifies
the need for new and revised policies and procedures in both the Loans and
Investment areas of the credit union.
- Market all credit union products and services,
including mutual funds, within clearly defined policies and procedures
- Manage a
portfolio of members with mutual funds accounts, providing investment
advice to help them achieve their short, medium, and long-term goals
- Based on effective listening and sound financial
literacy, promote and advise on the full range of lending and investment
vehicles with emphasis on consumer loans, mortgages, lines of credit,
mutual funds, deposit and investment vehicles, and sundry services. This will be achieved by actively
pursuing membership growth opportunities and following up on staff
referrals, business generating initiatives, and member inquiries
Qualifications:
- Should possess a University or College degree or diploma, preferably in Business or equivalent work experience along with a minimum of three years of related experience in a financial institution
- Investment Funds in Canada (IFC) designation through the Canadian
Securities Institute (CSI).
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP)/Personal Financial Planner (PFP)
designation considered an asset
- Understanding of compliance requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, credit union systems and job-related software
- Knowledge of all credit union products, services and banking system
Proven communication, interpersonal, time management and superior customer service skills are required
- Willingness to work in a learning environment and ability to upgrade their education and skills in order to keep pace with changes in this job function
- Must be bondable
Competencies/Skills:
- Able to meet continuing education (CE)
requirements to maintain your Mutual Funds license after it's granted.
- Demonstrated
ability to effectively problem solve and make decisions as well as manage
conflicting priorities
- Proficient
in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook as well as job
related software
- Strong
planning, organizational and time management skills
Excellent
interpersonal, verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Communicate
in a manner that is professional, respectful, effective, and timely
- Ability
to work well independently and collaboratively as a team member and
actively contribute to team successes across the credit union
- Ability
to demonstrate integrity and build trust with others and remain open to

- Ability

- Provide
exceptional member and internal client service in every interaction and at
every touchpoint
- Be
self-motivated, resourceful and flexible
- Ability to
maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
