The Role

The Retail Lending Underwriter is responsible for the underwriting, processing and approval of on-line applications and broker referrals. The incumbent will analyze, review and approve credit applications within authorized limits, obtaining exceptions where necessary, ensuring that applicable legislation, regulations, policies and procedures are followed. The incumbent will also assist in educating branch staff as required. The Retail Lending Underwriter will also support the Manager, Residential Underwriting in other credit processes including:

·       Underwrite complex and conforming mortgage applications

·       Provide sound credit approvals and use discretion prudently in an effort to minimize overall delinquency while balancing the needs of the member and YNCU with a             focus on providing win-win solutions

·       Daily communication with brokers to build long lasting relationships

·       Assist in educating branch staff as required

·       Fast pace working environment and have the ability to meet scheduled turnaround times

·       Confer with underwriters to aid in resolving credit application problems/concerns

·       Assist in the content and delivery of lending-specific training

What we are looking for

  •  Post secondary diploma, degree and/or certification in business, business administration or a related program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  •  Minimum three (3) years experience working in a financial institution in a lending services role
  •   Possess strong practical understanding of underwriting guidelines and compliance requirements, with a proven ability to underwrite complex credit. 
  •   Fully proficient with consumer and mortgage lending as well as having a general knowledge of available financial services products & services
  •   Must have a valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable available vehicle
  •    Must be bondable
