THE ROLE:
As a key member of the Communications Team, the Social Media & Community Events Specialist is a dynamic, hybrid role that blends social media strategy, content creation, and event coordination. This role is vital in growing YNCU’s brand presence across digital platforms and in the community, supporting both organizational growth and member engagement goals.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and the broader community, the Specialist will plan, create, and execute compelling content, oversee social media platforms, and lead YNCU’s involvement in community events and partnerships. This role requires occasional travel to branch locations and events (including evenings and weekends), and a valid driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media & Content Creation:
• Develop, manage, and execute annual social media strategy, including monthly content calendars.
• Create engaging content (written, visual, video) for all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.).
• Track and report on key metrics to evaluate performance and optimize strategies.
• Monitor social media accounts, respond to comments and messages, and foster positive engagement with the online community
• Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and best practices in social media and digital content.
• Collaborate with multimedia designers and internal teams to deliver branded content that aligns with YNCU’s marketing objectives.
• Collaborate with internal departments and branches to identify content opportunities and gather stories that highlight YNCU’s community involvement and staff achievements.
• Host, shoot, edit, and produce multimedia content (e.g., Facebook Live, Instagram Stories, Reels).
• Ensure all content meets CASL and AODA compliance standards.
Community Engagement & Events:
• Act as a YNCU ambassador, cultivating meaningful community relationships and partnerships aligned with strategic goals.
• Plan, coordinate, and attend YNCU-sponsored events; manage all event components including promotional materials, logistics, and staff engagement.
• Develop and execute community involvement strategies, track ROI, and report on event success and social impact.
• Assist with managing promotional item inventory and coordinating disbursements across the branch network to support marketing and community initiatives.
• Assist our PR team with public relations for community initiatives, including media engagement and press releases.
Project Management & Collaboration:
• Lead cross-functional events and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of marketing materials and event components.
• Support internal storytelling by gathering and sharing stories from staff, members, and community partners.
• Maintain organized records of community partnerships and social media assets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in social media management, content creation, marketing, or events coordination.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (required).
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
• Knowledge of social scheduling platforms (e.g., Sprout), email marketing tools, and analytics software.
• Experience in video production and basic editing is an asset.
• Knowledge of financial services is an asset.
